Baxter: Bafana won't fear anybody at AFCON 2019

Cape Town - Bafana Bafana head coach Stuart Baxter says his side has no reason to fear any team when they take part in the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Bafana Bafana clinched qualification to the 24-team tournament - to be hosted in Egypt in June - behind Group E leaders Nigeria after a 2-1 away win over Libya in Tunisia.

After the squad touched down back in South Africa, Baxter said at a press conference that his side would have no fear when heading into the tournament.

"I don't want to say this and bring pressure onto the players, but I don't think this squad of players that we have at the moment should fear anybody," Baxter said.

"I will be saying to them that no matter who is on the other side of the field, we can beat them.

"I don't think Nigeria will be scared of anybody and we just beat them and drew with them, and I think that my players can go there without any fear.

"There will always be expectations but we've got to make a friend of that."

Fans were earlier on Tuesday in full voice at OR Tambo International Airport to welcome the team home. The AFCON tournament is set to be played in Egypt between June 21 and July 19.
